First, I would set aside funds to help my stores in whatever would assist
them in advancing their business- whether it be travel to retail
seminars, computer training, or expert advice. I would also donate a
portion of the winnings to a charity very close to my heart, the "Make a

What I most want my elected officials to know about retail is that we are a critical component to our community. Successful local business equals a successful local economy. Our stores create jobs, encourage an involved customer, and give back to local charities. Retail is incredibly gratifying, but it is also very
challenging. It all comes down to implementing a good team. That
teamwork is not only crucial between our elected officials and store
owners, but also with the store owners and his/her employees. The key
to a successful store is a solid team that works together well. We need to see that teamwork between our elected officials and the retail industry to support economic growth.

During the holiday season I spend time with family decorating the
house and the store for the season. It's wonderful to be able to assist
our customers in picking the perfect holiday gift for their loved ones. I always host an annual Monkee's Christmas party at the store with refreshments and music to show my appreciation for our customers.
Some of our customers are only around for the holidays so it's also a great way to
be able to catch up with old friends.

I am most proud of my family and their accomplishments. In my immediate family, my oldest son recently made the difficult decision to attend boarding school because he saw the need to learn in an environment that would best develop his learning skills. In my extended "Monkee's" family, I am proud of the passion and dedication our store owners put into their businesses. They work long, hard hours, and always have a smile for their customers. As my husband always told me, when you love your job, you never go to work!
